Fort Kijkduin

In the museum at Fort Kijkduin, you can discover everything about the history of this fort, one of the coastal defense forts and the other forts around Den Helder. As a fortified city with the Rijkswerf (national shipyard), Den Helder suffered many bombings in the past. Here you will learn about the early days of the fort, the landing of English and Russian soldiers in North Holland in 1799, Napoleon Bonaparte's visit to Den Helder, and the coastal lighting on the Kijkduin dune top.
