National Rescue Museum

Den Helder

The Dorus Rijkers National Rescue Museum is located at the historic Willemsoord Royal Dockyard. The museum is housed in the former engine workshop of the Navy's former repair shipyard. Den Helder has made a significant contribution to the field of rescue, as the establishment of the Rescue Societies in the Netherlands in 1824 was a direct result of the sinking of the ship "De Vreede" off the coast of Den Helder.
